Hello, my name is Madison Nigh
I’m a special education advocate, former special education teacher, veteran wife, and proud mom. I help families better understand their child’s rights, navigate the IEP and 504 process, and advocate for meaningful supports that allow students to access their education and make real progress.
With more than 11 years of experience in special education and advocacy, I bring both professional knowledge and a heart for supporting families through what can often feel like an overwhelming process.
My Story
My passion for supporting students with disabilities began long before I became an advocate. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Special Education: Moderate to Intensive Needs from Ohio University and my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education which enabled me to hold Ohio teaching and administrative licenses.
Before becoming an advocate, I taught in a variety of special education settings, including high school self-contained classrooms, elementary intervention programs, and academic and behavioral support settings. I have written and implemented dozens of IEPs, collaborated closely with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, teachers, and administrators, and supported students with a wide range of academic, behavioral, functional, and communication needs.
My background also includes special education evaluations, eligibility reviews, behavior intervention planning, progress monitoring, and data collection. As a former member of a school PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Supports) team, I helped develop behavior data systems and interventions to better support student success.
As a veteran wife, I also have a special passion for supporting military families, including families navigating DoWEA schools and frequent transitions between school systems.
At the heart of my work is a simple belief: parents deserve to feel informed, supported, and confident when making decisions for their child. My goal is to help families understand the process, ask the right questions, and advocate for services that are individualized, appropriate, and meaningful.
Outside of advocacy, I enjoy spending time with my family, being outdoors, traveling, playing board games, cuddling with my dogs, and caring for my plants. I am also an active member of my church community and a proud member of COPAA, where I regularly attend trainings and information sessions to continue growing in my advocacy work.
